Our Journey Begins

From humble beginnings raised in the Rio Grande Valley

Nora Monie built an extraordinary athletic legacy, tracing from her dominant high school years in South Texas to historic collegiate success and elite international accolades.

High School Accomplishments

Monie was a standout multi-sport varsity athlete at Sharyland High School and Sharyland Pioneer High School in Mission, Texas.

  • Volleyball History: She was a highly competitive, powerhouse player for the Sharyland volleyball program, using her elite vertical leap and strength to anchor the team's front line during district and regional postseason pushes her and her older sister played together on the furthest qualifying team in sharyland ISD history making it to the Texas Sweet 16 tournament.

  • Track and Field Dominance:

    • District and Regional Champion: Monie repeatedly claimed District titles and captured the Region IV Championship in the discus throw with commanding margins. She also consistently qualified for regionals in the shot put.

    • State Appearances: She made multiple trips to the UIL Track and Field State Meet in Austin, qualifying as both a regional runner-up and a regional champion.

    • State Championship (2015): On her sixth and final throw in the pouring rain, she threw the discus 141 feet, 8 inches to win the UIL 5A State Championship. She also won a State bronze medal in the shot put at the exact same meet, making her the only 5A female thrower to medal in both events that year. She made history as the first female athlete from a Sharyland ISD school to ever win a UIL State title.

University of Houston Accolades

Monie continued her historic throwing career at the collegiate level, competing for the University of Houston Cougars.

  • Program Record Breaker: She repeatedly shattered the Houston program record in the outdoor discus throw, culminating in a historic throw of 58.05 meters (190-5) to win the 111th Drake Relays.

  • Conference Honors: Named The American Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week multiple times, consistently holding the top mark in the conference and a top-10 ranking across the entire NCAA.

  • Podium Finishes: She captured multiple All-Conference accolades and scored crucial points for Houston at the AAC Championships in both the discus and indoor shot put.
